runawayskellum: Animated icon of Toph punching Aang (he does have a heart)

I love Dante Basco. I've only seen him in three things - Hook, in which I fell madly in love, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and But I'm A Cheerleader!, a nice wee film about kids at de-gaying camp. Also, he's written about the whitewashing in The Last Airbender.

Basically, all I want to do right now is chant RUFIO! RUFIO! and watch him angstily set fire to things while rescuing gay teenagers. No one can convince me that the ~real~ Dante Basco doesn't do these things.

Also, I'm writing!

I actually suck quite badly at writing. And plotting. But I'm doing it anyway, because I like it, and the more I come up with Things That Almost Resemble Plot the more excited I get. And I think stories are important. I want to write a story that says that sometimes people can really believe that they are your friends when they're not. I want to write a story where the mentor isn't omnipotent and unavailable and kind of useless. I want a story where some people are important to you just because, but others really aren't. (Is it obvious I've just broken off a pretty toxic friendship? Oh well.)

Also? I want a story with teenage girls saving the world.

So I guess it's time to put my head down.

Rufio was awesome. And clearly I now need to see But I'm a Cheerleader!, sooner rather than later.

I have to say, for the longest time, I watched Avatar and kept cracking jokes about Zuko turning into a dragon, because my main exposure to Dante Basco was in Jake Long: American Dragon. *checks wikipedia for facts* Okay, it was actually American Dragon: Jake Long.

And, jeez, no wonder Katara/Zuko seems shippy. I hadn't realized Mae Whitman played Rose, the girlfriend character (who was so much more than that, by the way, but I'm describing Rose in that way because it's germane to my point) in American Dragon.

I would love to read stories like those, if you post them when you finish. :) Especially if teenage girls save the world.

Oh! I'd never heard of American Dragon - I'll have to check it out! Especially if Mae Whitman is in it too... Actually, I had a sort of similar experience with Arrested Development: I didn't see it until I was already really into Avatar, so I kept joking about Ann (Mae Whitman's character) running off to waterbend the hell out of poor George Michael.

But I'm a Cheerleader! is really adorable. Dante Basco's character isn't a huge one, but he gets a love interest and a happy ending (and really cute American football jackets).

Well, fingers crossed that one day I actually finish the damn thing. I am not the best at following through on things like this. But thank you! :)
